Country Profile of Zambia

The country profile of Zambia with specific stress detail of housing supply authorities in the country. Zambia is a south-central African country with a population of 13.2 million (UN, 2010) spreading over 752,614 sq. km (290,586 sq. miles). This is a landlocked country surrounded by Angola, Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia. The country is mostly a plateau that rises to 8,000 ft. (2,434 m) in the east. Zambia is one of the most highly urbanized countries in sub-Saharan Africa with 44% of the population concentrated in a few urban areas along the major transport corridors, while rural areas are sparsely populated. Unemployment and underemployment in urban areas are serious problems, while most rural Zambians are subsistence farmers. The population comprises approximately 72 ethnic groups, most of which are Bantu-speaking.
