Where people live and how they access daily locations to work, shop for food, socialize, go to school, recreate, visit the doctor or get to other destinations can have a direct impact on their health. This is more true for lower-income populations that may already be challenged with less time, fewer resources, and less opportunity for healthy living. As part of the District Sustainable DC Plan, this report offers a synthesis of best practices in design standards for site design and location considerations that can be used by community members, local affordable housing developers, and other policymakers to help inform and create more opportunities for healthy living for residents of affordable housing.
