South Africa’s policy environment is moving through an especially dynamic period at present, with the publication of its first National Development Plan (NDP) providing a glimpse of the pathway to a new, low carbon, climate resilient economic future and a significant government commitment to funding a suite of large Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIPs) on the immediate horizon. This case study on South Africa contains within it a mini-case study that illustrates the potential for collaboration between the public and the private sector in the provision of low carbon, climate resilient infrastructure, namely the provision of renewable energy solutions to low income communities.
