The supply of low cost housing in Fiji. This paper provides an overview of the status of low cost housing supply in Fiji. It identifies the reasons for the shortages of housing particularly in the urban centres. A number of housing policies created by the government has not improved the situation. The provision of infrastructure, the regulation of land and housing development, the organisation of the construction and material industry, and the involvement of the sectors in building and construction all have achieved little success. Policies such as security of tenure for housing land and the ability to use it as an asset also affects the quantity of housing.
