This publication will help readers identify many area properties affordable to low- and moderate- income households, including both privately-owned and publicly-owned apartments and townhouse communities in Fairfax County. Housing-related development and assistance programs and services in Fairfax County are administered through two organizations – the Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development and the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority operates 1,060 units of RAD-PBV housing. These units were built or otherwise acquired using federal funds. They include townhouses, garden apartments and condominium units, and are located throughout the county. For complete details about the RAD-PBV program – including eligibility and income limits.
The Fairfax County Rental Program (FCRP) includes nearly 2,500 units of affordable housing for families, single persons, seniors and supportive housing for special populations, and serves a range of household incomes. Some properties have FHA-insured, reduced rate mortgages and some units receive U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rental subsidies, making them affordable to lower income households.
