Every Victorian deserves a safe and secure home. It’s the foundation upon which strong individuals, healthy families, and resilient communities are built, grow and prosper.
However, we know that housing affordability presents challenges for many Victorians. Some households are priced out of the market, face precarious housing, and experience financial hardship. Some face homelessness due to a lack of safe, secure, and affordable rental accommodations. Others are forced to make significant compromises on the size, location, type, or quality of the housing they live in – to such an extent that their housing exacerbates their social and economic challenges.
Social housing is a central plank of Victoria’s housing response. It provides a critical safety net for people with very low incomes, many of whom experience other challenges that mean they cannot access appropriate housing in the market.
