The shortage of affordable housing is an issue plaguing many developing and advanced countries. The availability of better-paying jobs in the urban areas has caused as the influx of people from villages, and small towns to ever-expanding cities around the world.  As the urban population grows, land soars making housing less and less affordable for many urban dwellers. the United Nations Universal Declaration of human rights recognizes that access to decent, affordable housing is fundamental to the health and well-being of people and the smooth functioning of the economy.
