Adequate housing has been recognized as a “fundamental condition and resource for health” in the World Health Organization’s Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. There is a large body of international and national research work that demonstrates the close links between housing and health. At the same time, a growing number of housing interventions in many jurisdictions have been aimed at improving access to safe, good-quality housing. This report provides an overview of research and policy work in the academic and professional and practice literature (government sources, NGOs, and community practitioners) that identifies and assesses housing interventions for impacts on health.
