Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document
Supplementary planning documents (SPDs) should build upon and provide more detailed advice or guidance on policies in an adopted local plan. As they do not form part of the development plan, they cannot introduce new planning policies into the development plan.
They are however a material consideration in decision-making. They should not add unnecessarily to the financial burdens on development. They are subject to public consultation before they are adopted (see the consultation statement below) and are a material consideration in planning decisions.
This SPD is intended primarily to guide applicants and potential applicants through the process of complying with national and local policies on providing affordable housing as part of housing development. It will also set consistent procedures for Council staff to follow when processing applications.
