The City of Richmond has been feeling an increased need for additional affordable housing for its citizens. Richmond’s housing sector has gotten d continued growth, resulting in terms of increase in real estate prices and rental rates. These rising costs have proven out of reach for an increasing number of Richmond citizens. The updated Affordable Housing Strategy was adopted by Council on March 12, 2018. The Strategy is based on that the City is successful in providing a range of housing options for households of different ages, family types, and incomes. The Strategy classifies 5 Strategic directions and uses regulatory tools to encourage a diverse mix of housing types and tenures as well as to utilize full use of city resources and use for financial tools with non-profit housing and service providers and also strengthen partnership opportunities.
