Many Gabriola’s are finding it difficult to obtain stable, safe, healthy, and affordable year-round housing. Gabriola who works in the service industry, seniors on fixed incomes, and other disadvantaged residents cannot afford the existing housing options on Gabriola. Therefore, young families are leaving the island, businesses are having difficulties recruiting employees, and school enrolment are unstable. A vibrant community exists when all its members can live safely and with dignity, as part of a socially and economically diverse population. The development of affordable housing is an important step toward such a community.
