Kenya: Socio-economic Conditions in Slum Areas

Human Immune Deficiency virus HIV/AIDS can be described as an extra ordinary kind of crisis. It is a kind of crisis that is not so often witnessed in the human history. More than 20 years and over 20 million deaths have been witnessed since the first case of HIV was diagnosed in 1981 among the homosexuals. Some have described HIV as the propagandist dream come true likened to a politician seeking electorate’s votes or a journalist looking for a big story or a parent trying to keep the children in a narrow line, the mention of AIDS gives an array of feelings. Among young people aged 15-24 years in Africa an estimated 4.6% of women and 1.7%  of the men are living with the HIV. These figures could even be higher as most people  do not know their status. The millennium development goal 6 is to halt and begin to  reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS.
