Boston’s Green Affordable Housing Program in United States

The green building, also known as a high-performance building or sustainable building, describes a comprehensive approach to designing, constructing, and renovating buildings that prioritize human health, water, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and resource conservation. Green building has become a policy priority around the United States and there have been a series of high-profile green building incentives or requirements enacted through legislation, executive orders, and code amendments during the past few years. At the federal level, ten agencies require or encourage their buildings to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard, and a recently introduced bill would require the adoption of green building standards across still more agencies. Around the country, twenty-five states, and at least ninety municipalities have established green building mandates or ordinances.
