Cumberland Affordable Housing Strategy
The Cumberland City Affordable Housing Strategy defines affordable housing and identifies the many different forms that it can take. It provides an analysis of local demand, as well as affordable housing that has been delivered to date within Cumberland City. This strategy also provides an overview of the current policy context and identifies key priorities and actions that the Council can pursue to continue to facilitate the delivery of affordable housing over the next 20 years.
Affordable housing encompasses a broad spectrum of housing, providers, tenure, and delivery models. Housing is generally considered affordable when households renting or purchasing can meet their housing costs and still have sufficient income to pay for other basic needs such as food, clothing, medical care, education, and transport. Affordable housing generally refers to rental housing that is subsidized in some way and also includes housing delivered through the private market, including secondary dwellings.
