The objective of the compendium is to compile the available knowledge on disaster-resistant low-cost housing and make this knowledge accessible to a wider public. The compendium focuses on improving access to existing knowledge, rather than on developing new technologies and methods. Basic knowledge of construction methods exists but is not always easily accessible. The South Pacific Disaster Reduction Programme provides a welcome opportunity to combine the available knowledge and make it widely available.
