Fiji is the first Melanesian country to cross the symbolic demographic milestone of more than 50% of the population residing in cities and towns.

Yet, fiji informal settlement has been a major feature of Fijian urban life for at least 40 years.

Close to 20% of the urban population lives in settlements with a diverse range of physical, legal, and social conditions that often do not meet basic human rights, are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, and represent the extremes of poverty and social exclusion in Fiji.

This Settlement Situation Analysis (SSA) report is a key component of the multi-phase Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme(PSUP).
