Vancouver is the most expensive city in the world to live in. Although it may be the desire of many people to live in the sixth most livable city in the world. we are not in the position of ranking second among cities with the least affordable housing in the world if you consider the cost of housing as a percentage of income. It is not surprising then that in 2018, an Insights West poll found that 90% of Metro Vancouver residents overwhelmingly agree the region is facing a housing crisis. Here, The anxiety over affordable housing has been multiple other issues of concern in the region mainly foreign ownership and Vancouver and these issues have a direct effect on Vancouver’s housing situation. The issue of affordable housing is a question of supply and not demand. Accordingly, policies need to focus on increasing the supply. Simply put we need an increase in our city’s housing options for example to rent or to own. This includes more options for affordable rental units.
