Sustainable Housing for Resilient Communities

Over 70% of urban households do not have land in the city. As a result 3.5 million people are living in 4000 slums in Dhaka city with another 52,000 homeless people.

1. Dhaka is the 8th largest city in the world projected to become the 3rd largest by 2030.

2. The annual population growth rate in 2011 of Dhaka was 3.96%.

3. Dhaka’s (DMA) approx. 15 million people live in just 125 square miles (325 square kilometers).

4. At more than 45,000 per sq. km. the capital of Bangladesh is nearly 75% more dense than Hong Kong.

More than 40% of the urban population is living in slums because of the non-inclusive policy.
