This report based on Housing Need and Affordability in Hong Kong (2011). This report specifically addresses the affordability and rising price issue in two aspects: 1) presenting an overview of affordable housing policies in other Asian countries, and 2) providing forecast of housing needs in the next 5, 10, and 20 years. Currently, Hong Kong’s affordable housing policy primarily centres on the provision of public rental housing, PRH (as the Tenant Purchase Scheme has been cancelled), whilst that of subsidized homeownership (Home Ownership Scheme, HOS) has been suspended since the announcement made by then-Secretary for Transport and Housing Michael Suen in November 2002.
