Housing & Title Deeds

The housing deficit is one of South Africaʼs most pressing challenges. Cities and towns are the drivers of economic growth in our country. Rapid urbanisation as people move in search of opportunity and services results in increasingly large housing backlog.  Homes are now even further away from good jobs, schools, transport and social services. National government housing delivery has declined by more than 60%, from a peak of 271, 219 housing opportunities in 2006/7 under former President Nelson Mandela to less than 110,000 per year from 2014 to 2018 under the Zuma administration. National and Provincial Governments are beginning to favour so-called “Mega Projects” over infill projects. Large tracts of cheap, available land for mega projects would be poorly located and far from existing services, jobs and amenities, such as Atlantis in the Western Cape. In contrast, infill projects use existing state-owned properties within the urban areas and thus ensure inclusive development.
