A document providing a strategy in an effort to improve Indian land administration. Most institutions for administering land in India had been adopted from the British during Independence, and with only slight modification, these institutions and processes have become archaic. To work on these issues and for long term improvement several immediate steps are recommended, like expanding computerisation, establishing a spatial framework, piloting ways to improve textual and spatial records, allowing private sector to participate in surveys and complementing restrictions on tribal alienation with flexible mechanisms.
