This document is based on housing finance in India, which has traditionally been accorded and continues to receive a low priority in policy formulation compared to other sectors. By international standards, housing finance constitutes a small proportion of Gross Domestic Product {GDP}; and notwithstanding the extraordinary growth in the volume of housing investments over the past four decades, it still falls short of the country’s requirements.
