Popular images of rural life focus on the peace and quiet of the countryside, the absence of roads, buildings, and urban infrastructure can make life difficult for low-income residents. For people who live outside a “traditional” two-parent, single-family home such as elderly people, persons with disabilities, unaccompanied male farm workers and single mothers the problems of rural isolation and lack of resources are made all the more acute.
