In Kamloops, the problems of homelessness and lack of affordable housing have become ever more apparent, and research has shown quantitatively that more affordable housing is needed (Kamloops Affordable Housing Needs Assessment, 2013). In order to effectively address this problem, a concerted effort is required on the part of the community and government at all levels. Many non-profit organizations in Kamloops operate affordable housing units, but either has difficulty putting together the capital or lack the expertise to build more units for their clients. Local examples of affordable housing operated by non-profits include Elizabeth Court, operated by the Elizabeth Fry Society; Stokstad Place, run by Interior Community Services; and the Henry Leland House, managed by the Aids Society of Kamloops (ASK Wellness).
