The country is facing a massive backlog of housing, estimated at around 7 mn housing units. The shortage is acute, in low and middle-income sections of the population. The Government is working on a comprehensive program to tackle the housing issues, more so for low-income groups (LIG) of population.
HBFC had submitted to GOP its proposals on low-cost housing projects, as part of the Budget Proposals for the year 2007-2008.
The Government has made an announcement in the Budget to make 250,000 low-cost housing over the next five years. The announcement reads as follows: “Our government realized this need of low-income people. A low-cost Housing Scheme would be started in collaboration with Provincial and District Governments. A loan from HBFC will be available. Under this scheme, an estimated number of 250,000 units would be constructed in the next 5 years.”
