Government policy, as laid down in PPG12 (Development Plans), acknowledges the valuable role that supplementary planning guidance (SPG) can play in supplementing the policies and proposals of the Development Plan. Government advice also indicates that SPG may be taken into account as a material consideration in the assessment of development proposals. In response to Government guidance this supplementary planning guidance has been produced by Solihull Council to provide additional information to assist with the implementation of affordable housing policy. ( in the West Midlands County, UK). The Council is strongly committed to encouraging the provision of affordable housing to meet housing needs in the Borough. The Community Strategy for Solihull gives importance to meeting housing needs in the borough through the provision of affordable housing and this is further developed in both the Council’s Housing Strategy and the Council’s Unitary Development Plan.
