UK-Kent-Affordable Housing 2016-17 Kent Local Authorities

This bulletin presents affordable housing supply information for local authority districts in Kent. The data was collected through government surveys and published by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). The figures show gross annual supply, including new build and acquisitions. It does not take into account losses through demolitions or sales. A total of 1,500 additional affordable dwellings were provided in Kent (KCC area) during 2016/17. Of the additional 1,500 affordable completions, 20 were in the Social rented sector, 680 in the Intermediate sector and 800 in the Affordable rented sector. There were an additional 100 affordable homes in the Medway Unitary Area, bringing the overall total to 1,600. Nationally (England) 41,530 affordable homes were provided. 27% more than the previous year. The total number of affordable homes completed in Kent (KCC area) rose 41% compared to the previous year. Figures for Medway UA were down 47% compared to one year ago. At the national level (England) they were 27% higher (Table 3). In 2016/17 affordable rented homes accounted for 53% of all affordable completions. Intermediate homes (i.e. part buy and part rent) made up 45% and affordable social rented 1% of the total. In addition to the 1,500 affordable units in the KCC area an additional 100 affordable units were completed in Medway (90 lower than the previous year), making a total of 1,600 affordable homes for the whole county.
