The important push of building research has been to improve upon the conventional practices and develop new prefabricated and cast-in-situ construction methods, mechanical aids, modern management techniques to achieve appreciable reduction in cost and time of construction and to promote the innovative techniques in their large scale housing programmed and to adopt of chemical specification for mortars and plasters, as tried out in several experimental projects. The most popular cost effective construction techniques which include Rat Trap Bond, Filler Slab, Brick Arches and Waffle Shell system for roofing and burnt clay bricks are being replaced by factory produced concrete blocks and The Tunnel Form System of Prefabrication for mass housing programmed may be promoted for cost cutting.
Organisations like National Building Organisation (NBO) New Delhi, Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMPTC) New Delhi, Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), New Delhi and Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), the National Network of under the aegis of HUDCO and COSTFORD centres throughout the state have been playing useful role in the promotion of innovative construction techniques evolved by the research institutions in the country. NB0 had experimented with 60 innovative cost reducing techniques in as many experimental projects.
