Launched on June 1, 2015, the Pradhan Manti Awas Yojana Tragets to eliminate India’s housing shortage by focusing on urban and rural areas under the government’s broader housing-for-all mission. The PMAY program follows a demand-driven approach under which states/UTs are empowered to approve projects for all eligible beneficiaries identified by them through a demand survey based on specific criteria.
